D308 by Takaab - Vintage Distortion

Affectionately known as “Noo Yang” or the Grilled Rat in the Siam Modular workshop, the D308 brings the sound of this vintage distortion pedal to your Eurorack system. Use it to add some grit to a patch, make acid scream or as a rudimentary waveshaper. Four flavours of fricasseed field vole are attainable via the ‘type’ switch, which inserts different diode arrangements into the clipping section of the circuit. The top two options having a thinner, fuzzier sound while the bottom two are a little cleaner with more bass present.

The CV input uses a vactrol to give some control of the overdrive amount, although this is not linear. With some distortion already applied, inputting a positive voltage up to +5v will lessen the drive. This works well with an LFO to create a tremolo. Control knobs for drive amount and a low-pass filter on the output are also present.

There is a jumper on the board which adds a classic modification for extra bass. This actually works to boost the low mids on the top two clipping types and as a subtle bass boost on the lower two. Connect the center pin to 'ORIG' for the original sound or 'MOD' to insert the bass modification. A trimmer on the board allows you to cut or boost the overall output. Left in the middle, it should output approximately the same peak-to-peak level as the original input.
